Author Guidelines

Authors are invited to submit original, unpublished works for review by Gavel. All submissions must align with the journal’s focus on legal research, critique, and commentary, and will undergo initial editorial screening followed by peer review.

Submissions should follow the Oxford University Standard for Citation of Legal Authorities (OSCOLA) [4th Edition]. Please ensure that the article is properly structured, has a clear argument, and includes all necessary references and permissions.

Authors are responsible for obtaining any required ethical approvals and publication permissions. Co-authors must consent to be listed. Submissions failing to meet our quality or ethical standards may be desk rejected.

We encourage clarity, originality, and academic rigor. Kindly refer to the Submission Checklist before finalizing your submission.

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • This submission meets the requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  • This submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration.
  • The manuscript is formatted clearly and follows OSCOLA [4th Edition] citation style.
  • All figures, tables, and attachments are properly labeled and referenced.
  • Permission has been obtained to publish all photos, datasets and other material provided with this submission.

Articles

This section invites original, full-length academic research papers. Submissions must be properly cited in OSCOLA (4th edn) format and include a brief abstract summarizing the argument. This section is peer-reviewed and intended for students aiming to build rigorous academic writing portfolios.

Case Comments

This section features concise, analytical commentary on landmark, recent, or under-discussed judicial decisions. Submissions should briefly summarize the facts and holding of the case, then provide a critical perspective on its reasoning, implications, or future relevance. Aimed at promoting critical thinking, this section is open to both Pakistani and international case law.
